A huge huge congratulations and thank you to everyone involved at CanDance Competitions.
The teachers for their amazing vision and drive to give your children a love and understanding of such a disciplined but rewarding and exciting art. Then Giving their time freely at competitions to stand and support and encourage the students with great pride.
The admin staff who get bombarded with questions and extra workloads leading upto competitions.
The class organisers who are our go between and help make all our visions come to life and keep everyone on track and updated, with great pride and care in their teams. Including the fabulous prop making mums and dads.
The mums and dads who constantly support their children, bringing them to class, rehearsals, helping out backstage or in the dressing room with hair or make up or props or costumes – the endless jobs.
The siblings who often have to sit around waiting for mums and brothers or sisters, giving up their holiday time to support them.
To my own family, especially Jason who basically lose me, not only during comps but in the months leading upto it. Could not do it without your support.
Last but not least the students, this is the reason we do all this to see your love and passion and determination to grow and do your best. You make us all so proud but most of all me. This year in particular I have had a constant smile on my face looking and reading Facebook. To see the great sportsmanship towards each other not only in your own team but also between the studios has been the best ever!!
Thank you for being part of my dream and part of the TIDC family, you make it all worthwhile. The fabulous result are just the cherry ontop💞

Where are they now…. Douglas Wiseman

douglas-wisemanIt was an absolute pleasure to see Douglas Wiseman during recent CanDance competitors where he came for a short visit to support his former fellow team-mates. We have had some time to catch up with him where we found Douglas has had an amazing new beginning in Sydney.

Sydney has been one thrill ride after another for Douglas Wiseman. He left Adelaide at the end of last year to go and pursue his performing dream further at Brent Street in Sydney, one of the most prestigious dance academy’s in Australia. Since being over there, he’s received many opportunities and learnt an incredible amount of knowledge. And it’s only been half a year!

He’s currently completing his Fulltime Certificate IV in Dance which is a one year certificate, however, he may return again for another year to complete a Diploma of Musical Theatre. He was offered in May to assist the Diploma of Musical Theatre course of 2016 with their assessment production of “9 to 5 the Musical” wherein he played a supporting role and assisted with the preparation of the show.

He has rubbed shoulders with some of Australia’s best and most sought after choreographers including Bec Morris, Alice Robinson, Mitchell Woodcock, Ryan Gonzalez, Matt Gode, Cassie Bartho, Ryan Sheppard, Darren Mapes, Dave McLean, Rob McLean and Stephen Tannos. All of these choreographers, teachers and incredible minds have been a fantastic influence on Douglas and in his words, “Have pushed my limits and helped me to grow to do things I honestly thought I’d never be able to do.”

He was lucky enough to be selected for a commercial dancing group that would perform at two venues for the “Nuskin Welcoming Party”. The budget was incredible and in his words was, “One of the most incredible shows I’ve ever done.” The first venue was a stage built on the water in Darling Harbour and their performance was accompanied by fire-twirlers, men with water-jets on their shoes, water fountains, fireworks and numerous pyrotechnic stunts. The show drew an audience of around 4,000 people that observed from the highway above and from all around the harbour.

After this, he was then also asked to perform at the second venue for the “Nuskin Welcoming Party”, this time at the Sydney Olympic Dome. This was a more private event specifically for the Nuskin employees and CEO’s and had a very high energy. The stage was small in comparison to the 500 metre screen circling around behind them.

Douglas has also been very pleased to be able to continue his choreographing and teaching skills by becoming a regular teacher and choreographer for Malabar Dance Crew. A wonderful connection he received through TIDC’s very own Laura Wilden. He was originally asked to teach a Boy’s Hip-Hop class, however this soon developed into much much more when they noticed his love, passion and optimism whenever he came to teach. He has choreographed solo’s and duo’s for eisteddfods, all of which were received with high acclaim. In Term 3, he has been offered the chance to choreograph an elite contemporary and jazz routine for students that want that extra push. The routines will also be put forward into eisteddfods.

Douglas said, “I think my transition from student to teacher has happened so so quickly. Sometimes I freak out and wonder if I’m doing the right thing choreographically or even in my teaching style, but whenever those thoughts would creep up, I’d stop myself and just ask, ‘What would the teachers at TIDC do?’ and then that carries me through.”

He believes that Sydney hasn’t really changed his personality that much, it’s more so his physicality and overall style, “Whenever people ask me how I’ve been doing I tend to refer to it as ‘Soul-destroying but in a good way.’ And I mean this in the best way possible. Sydney has taught me so many things about how I approach teaching, choreographing and dance in general. But if there’s one thing I can take away from all of my incredible experiences to date, it’s that your only competition should be yourself. And that’s what should drive you as a performer. As dancers we fundamentally like to work on our strengths because that’s our comfort zone, and I did a lot of that during Term 1 of Brent Street. I sat in my little comfort zone and just watched everything else go by. Big mistake. If anything, you should be taking those classes where you’re not that comfortable in that style or genre, and figuring out how you can make it work for you. Watch the teacher and listen to every tiny detail, don’t be afraid to ask questions if something’s not happening, and don’t compare yourself to other people. Comparison is the most toxic thing you can do in this industry and it can tear you down or build you up. So build up, Adelaide. Become tall and proud of who YOU are as a performer and continue to show Australia what we have to offer. Don’t apologize for being you.”

Nathan Stafford won the Best Young Performer of the Year Award at the Adelaide Theatre Guide “Curtain Call Awards” held at the Adelaide Convention Centre. It was a huge shock for him (but not for us as we all know how good he is!), as he was up against some very talented performers. He won the award for his performance as Bugsy Malone with Adelaide Youth Theatre:

Welcome to Term 2, 2016

We are extremely pleased with the way things are going – we hope you feel the same. Our dedicated and talented TIDC teachers offer only the best in a full and thorough dance education for now and the future. This I hope, should give you confidence in the knowledge that your children will always be catered for and nurtured – it is not just about winning in competitions (of which we are also successful) but the overall education, opportunities and guidelines we offer to you all, even those just for fun are now offered a secure grounding in all dance genres.

congratulations

Congratulations to all our students involved in Aladdin, Into the Woods, Cinderella, Mary Poppins and the Australian Ballet Companies up and coming performance as well as the many corporate gigs happening at the moment. TIDC Teachers will also be involved in productions of Catch me if you can & Wicked over the next few months.

We wish all those auditioning for the professional production of Sound of Music lots of luck too. Fingers crossed!

Wow! Such a lot of talent and we are proud of you, carrying on our tradition of producing many stars of the future – congratulations to you all. Don’t forget if you have something exciting coming up – let me know so that I can post the details, and if I have missed you, again let me know for the next edition.

CANDANCE FOR A CURE 2016: Our West Croydon students will perform at this year’s event. Adelaide Convention Centre, Saturday May 28 – a great night of entertainment. I would love everyone to come along and support this wonderful cause with proceeds going towards cancer research.

PROPS are an important part of dance competitions and concerts. We are lucky enough to have Owen Coad taking charge of props – he will however need a lot of help and support.

Props will be run in the same manner this year, NO PROPS will be released for solo’s (except when the school enters as a whole) without a release form being signed and a deposit paid – once the prop is returned in good order then the deposit will be returned. This must be organized through your class organiser, and will be strictly adhered to, even if teachers arrange for props. In the past years many props have been lost and damaged and as these are expensive to maintain they will not be released without the deposit or form signed – in which, while these props are in your care, you are responsible for them and their up-keep. This is only for any other competition that the whole school does not enter. You are also responsible for transporting them to and from the venue.

There will be a PROPS WORKING BEE held in Term Two (Date & Details TBA) – Remember each age group is responsible for their own props – so if no-one turns up from your age group your class props will not be done.

SCHOOL OUTFITS: A REMINDER –school outfits must be worn at all school functions and this includes competitions. Let’s look like a team and work together, this is extremely important. Jackets can be ordered now and onesies are also available.

A reminder also to have correct uniform for all classes, including musical theatre and hip hop, at this stage everyone should have FULL CORRECT UNIFORM.

GROOMING is an important part of our school image, and full details can be sought from the Student Info Book. Our dress code also includes wearing school tracksuit, t-shirt or onesies to and from the studio and to all public performances, especially for competitive classes. All of the above can be ordered from your receptionists – please help and encourage your children in this manner to show a pride in themselves and their dance studio. There are also shorts, t-shirts, hats, dance bags, hoodies, head bands etc. all available at good rates. Available by contacting DISCOUNT DANCEWEAR 8252 2192, we will deliver to you also. A supply is also held in the West Croydon, Elizabeth & Golden Grove studio offices.

COMPETITIONS: Remember that students should not miss any classes leading up to competitions, and should attend all rehearsals. Missing classes not only affects their lack in confidence but does also affect the whole team. We want to do the very best that we can and it is a team effort – thanks for support.

Your class organizer will also now have most details for costumes and for the performance for your troupes – so if not sure then please check with your organizer.

PLEASE MAKE THE EFFORT TO CONTACT YOUR ORGANISER AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE UP TO DATE WITH ALL DETAILS

COSTUMES: Costumes are all on the way but will not be handed out until ALL CLASS FEES, REHEARSAL FEES AND COSTUME FEES ARE PAID IN FULL – updated accounts will soon be handed out.

CLASS FEES: Term 2 fees are due by May 28, 2016. Constant late fees will not be tolerated this year – a late payment fee will apply to all outstanding fees. If you have difficulties at any time please feel free to approach me. Students will be refused tuition if fees are not paid up or arrangements made—also there will be NO SOLO LESSONS for those with outstanding fees unless arrangements are made. A reminder fees are worked out for the year and then divided into four irrespective of the amount of weeks in a term. Only term fees are accepted but these can be paid in instalments if you are having difficulty.

Remember that fees can also be paid by BPAY over the internet – however you must take your receipt into the office and then have it recorded through the office, this is to ensure that the details have come through correctly.

Bank SA – BSB – 105 183 Account – 596504040

Please remember to email receipt to Alison Lane (Elizabeth) , Natalie Van der Vlies (West Croydon) Shirley Pedler ( Golden Grove)

SOLO/DUO CLASSES: All lessons are progressing well, but in some cases work is not being retained from week to week. Practise is very important for all solos so please encourage you children to keep up their practise.

Please also understand that even though a certain number of solos may be entered for your child they may not always be finished. We work at their pace and it is better to be confident with less than to do a lot. Please don’t compare yourself to others and also trust your teachers – we know what we are doing!!

A reminder that if solos are missed they must be paid for, or arrange for an alternative student to take your solo time.

SHOP UPDATE :Our stockings, eyelashes and ballet ribbons are on the way so can all organizers get everyone’s size, remember we all need to be the same – once purchased these should be put away and then just kept for competitions. Lists of stocking socks, earrings, jewellery, gloves and hats are also required so please follow up ASAP.

Any groups requiring sequins and minor trims, – these will not be put onto costume bank (unless bulk) and can be picked up from your organizer or the shop for a small price, your organizer will be informed when your trims are ready.

A birthday coming up – we have fantastic dance wear, and giftware on sale, so come and have a look.

NEWSLETTER JUNE 2016
CONGRATULATIONS

Term 2 has been a busy one with students participating in the ATOD Scholarships and our Mid-year display. Great job by all! Our annual Dance camp was hugely successful with everyone having a fun and productive time at Woodhouse over the June long weekend. We are looking forward to an exciting second half of 2016.

Congratulations to all our students, teachers and parents involved in Big Fish, Catch Me If You Can and the upcoming production of Wicked.

Congratulations to all our students who auditioned for the professional production of The Sound of Music. What a wonderful experience for you all!

Congratulations to Miss Alana for her upcoming lead role in Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Congratulations to all students who participated in the ATOD Scholarships and good luck to those heading to ATOD Nationals in July.

Good Luck to Jaxon who is off to Melbourne for Australian Ballet training.

Congratulations to our performance team “Impact” who have been performing at the Netball and for Children’s charities with many other events coming up including a fundraiser for the Rio Olympics.

Congratulations to Nathan who has been performing with the Crows mascot and we are excited for the students that will soon be performing at Port Power.

I am so proud of you all. Don’t forget if you have something exciting coming up – let me know so that I can post the details, and if I have missed you, again let me know for the next edition.

PROPS are an important part of dance competitions and concerts. We are lucky enough to have Owen Coad taking charge of props again this year – he will however need a lot of help and support!

SCHOOL OUTFITS must be worn at all school functions and this includes competitions. Let’s look like a team and work together, this is extremely important.

A reminder also to have correct uniform for all classes, including musical theatre and hip hop, at this stage everyone should have FULL CORRECT UNIFORM.

There are also shorts, t-shirts, hats, dance bags, onesies, hoodies, head bands etc. all available at good rates. Available by contacting DISCOUNT DANCEWEAR 8252 2192, we will deliver to you also. A supply is also held in the West Croydon, Elizabeth & Golden Grove studio offices. You can see some of the apparel on our website.

GROOMING is an important part of our school image, and full details can be sought from the TIDC 2016 Handbook on the website. Please help and encourage your children in this manner to show a pride in themselves and their dance studio.

COMPETITIONS: Remember that students should not miss any classes leading up to competitions, and should attend all rehearsals. Missing classes not only affects their lack in confidence but does also affect the whole team. We want to do the very best that we can and it is a team effort – thanks for support.

PLEASE MAKE THE EFFORT TO CONTACT YOUR ORGANISER AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE UP TO DATE WITH ALL DETAILS

COSTUMES: Costumes will not be handed out until ALL CLASS FEES, REHEARSAL FEES AND COSTUME FEES ARE PAID IN FULL.

CLASS FEES: Term 2 fees are now OVERDUE (were due by May 28, 2016) Constant late fees will not be tolerated this year – a late payment fee will apply to all outstanding fees. If you have difficulties at any time please feel free to approach me. Students will be refused tuition if fees are not paid up or arrangements made—also there will be NO SOLO LESSONS for those with outstanding fees unless arrangements are made. REMINDER- fees are worked out for the year and then divided into four irrespective of the amount of weeks in a term.

Please remember to email receipt to Alison Lane (Elizabeth), Natalie Van der Vlies (West Croydon) Shirley Pedler (Golden Grove)

SOLO/DUO CLASSES: Practise is very important for all solos & duos so please encourage you children to keep up their practise.

CONTACTING MISS KERREANE: I know this can be a very difficult task at times, but please know it is not intentional. I teach Monday (all day) Tuesday – Friday afternoon from 2.30pm onwards. Also Thursday morning and Saturday 8.30 – 5.30. So you see I am not trying to avoid you just very busy. Please do persist or leave a message with the receptionist – keeping in mind I need to phone during the day as I teach every evening and will not answer the phone while I am teaching. For quick contact please text, otherwise email is recommended tidcperformingarts1@me.com

FACEBOOK is a great means of communication to keep up to date with studio happenings. Please join up to both our open page and private page where updates will be posted regularly (TIDC performing arts studio – you may need to friend Kerreane Sarti to gain access to the private page). There will also be notifications on the Facebook page of when newsletters are being distributed.

TIDC WEBSITE: don’t forget to also check out our website. The 2016 TIDC handbook is especially handy for new students.

sound-of-music-nathan-from-TIDC-3At last we can announce with great pride that our very own Nathan Stafford will be playing the role of Fredreich in the upcoming Adelaide season of The Sound of Music!! Congratulations Nathan, we can not wait to see you shine up there, we will all be there cheering you on!

After a 4-day audition process, Adelaide’s Sound of Music children have been chosen! Twelve young South Australian performers have been cast as the von Trapp children for the Adelaide season of the Sound of Music for their ability to master the show’s tricky vocal harmonies and choreography..

The London Palladium production will feature Amy Lehpamer as Maria and Cameron Daddo as Captain von Trapp as well as Marina Prior and Jacqueline Dark.

“We had over 350 children audition last month and we were absolutely blown away by the talent.” show producer John Frost said. “It’s exciting that audiences in my home town of Adelaide will see a production of this quality.”

The musical will open at the Festival Theatre on August 9 and run until September 2.

The musical originally premiered on Broadway in 1959 to record-breaking advance ticket sales where it won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

About Parents

Do parents come into class?

No we find children respond better to the teachers if parents are not in the class. Naturally if they are upset we would not hesitate to come and get you, so do recommend you stay around in the waiting area, especially in the first few weeks. At two of the studios there are viewing areas. There is now a tv monitor in operation for the under 5 classes in the Elizabeth Studio.

ARE YOUR TEACHERS QUALIFIED?

Unfortunately there are many studios that this is not the case but all teachers at TIDC performing arts studio are qualified or in training for their Teachers Certificate, they are also required to have police checks under the TIDC safe dance policies, so please feel assured your children are in safe hands.

Performances

Will they get to Perform?

The excitement of performing is something that even the young ones have the opportunity to be involved in. At the end of first and third term there will be an open class where everyone can come along and watch a normal class. In second term there will be a small display in leotard only but it will be held onstage, but this is not compulsory. Then at the end of the year it’s the opportunity for costumes and make-up and full performances, where the whole school comes together for a concert – again this is not compulsory and costumes can either be purchased or hired.

For those extra keen there is also the opportunity of competitions or assesments, but this is your choice.

WELCOME TO 2017

Welcome to our studio for 2017. We welcome back existing students and extend a warm welcome to all our new students and their families. We are looking forward to another exciting year ahead.

NEWSLETTERS will be regularly distributed via email. General newsletters will be distributed once or twice a term, with age groups done as necessary.

ENROLMENT/MEDICAL FORMS must be filled out by all students both old and new. It is very important that all details are kept up to date, especially in the case of an emergency. Please see your receptionist if you have not done this yet. This can also be done online.

SMOKERS: I respect your decision to smoke, but I do ask that all butts be put into the bins or cans provided. Please do not smoke near the door ways or entrances, as it goes straight back into the studio and is not fair to others.

NOISE LEVELS: Please respect

all other students and teachers by keeping your noise level down in waiting areas, office and even outside as noise travels

and can be extremely distracting to all.

ELIZABETH UPDATE: A big thank you to all those who have assisted in tidying up the studio ready for the year ahead.

GOLDEN GROVE UPDATE: Classes will continue in both the golden grove high school and recreation centre.

WEST CROYDON UPDATE: Thank you to those parents who have assisted over the last few months with our new Port Road studio .It is starting to take shape with still a lot of work to do. We are in need of assistance with painting air conditioning, rubbish removal, mirrors and more so if you can give us a hand just let me know. The RSL is still in use but in need of DESPERATE TLC and I would love to arrange a working bee tohelp tidy this area up and have a good clean out. Thank you to those parents who have already helped there also.

NEW CLASSES: There are many new classes to try this year, especially for the little ones. Hip hop classes, acrobatics, cheer and tumbling. Spread the word! Don’t forget discount is given if you encourage a friend to enroll in any classes.

SOLO LESSONS are highly encouraged for developing confidence and

strengthening technique, please let me know if interested – these can be commenced from as young as 4 years old. Just a note in regards to solo lessons at Golden Grove—due to the high cost of renting the facility we are encouraging students not to have their solo time at that venue but come to Elizabeth for their solo—if however that is not suitable then unfortunately the costs will be a lot higher.

ALL solo lessons must be booked in through myself – please email me requests and NOT directly with the teacher.

COMPETITIONS

Dates to be advised

There will be various competitions held through the year with details given at your class meetings, these may include interstate for those interested as well as Get the Beat in May, Candance in July, KAR in October etc. We will be entering in the July school holidays, and selected troupes also participating in National competitions – details of what is involved will be given in your age group newsletter. A newsletter will be distributed to competition classes with all details so please keep your eye out and ask if you do not have all the info.

SOLOS/DUOS: There are many competitions now held in South Australia and although we are happy to support entries, these must first be CHECKED with the teachers and APPROVED – remember it is their work on display and they may not consider it is up to standard. You must also NOT MISS ANY CLASSES – this includes, troupe and all technique. Missing these lessons affects your whole troupe and is is vital that you understand the importance of working as a team and striving to do the best by that team. So you can enter but if they CLASH WITH CLASSES THEN WILL NEED TO WITHDRAW. Please also note that you have been given a time for solos and these must be paid for if you do not attend, teachers have given this time to you and still have budgets to cover. You are welcome however to find a replacement or sway with someone else so the teacher is not left waiting around and wasting their time. Costumes also need to be checkedchecked and approved – it is now difficult with so many sites but you really don’t want the same costume as someone else in your own section. Please contact me if you have any queries re solos.

DANCE CAMP

June 9-12, 2017

Dance Camp will be held over the June long weekend for competition troupes @ Woodhouse Activity Centre.

More details and exact times required to follow.

EXAMINATIONS

EXAMINATIONS may be held in August/September for those ready, in age groups from Under 6 to Seniors. Those not quite ready can sit their exam in November/December. A stricter standard will be expected before allowing students to sit for their exams as for the next few years we are to be assessed by student’s progress in regards to examining. Full details of those involved will be given closer to the date. An examination guideline is also available from the front desk.
